Megan Leavey: Review

Purley based on the advertising, I was afraid that Megan Leavey would be some uninspired Lifetime movie that somehow found its way onto the big screen. And to be honest, that's partially what it is but it's also a uniquely empathetic and tender war film that has one amazing central performance from Kate Mara. Deep down underneath, there's a powerful narrative about finding a purpose in life and a sense of belonging but it becomes buried under plenty of tired cliches and a rather flat, rushed, and unnecessary romance subplot. It's certainly very flawed but the positives just barely outweigh the negatives and it goes out on the satisfying heart-warming note that you would fully expect it to. Worth at least one Kleenex-required viewing. (6.5/10)

Director Trey Edward Shults’ debut film  Krisha  was one of the most criminally underseen gems from last year and the sheer level of talent he displayed in that film was powerful enough for me to be looking forward to any and all of his future projects. A Ghost Story: Review

I had strong feeling that my experience watching this movie would fuck me up but I had no idea it would fuck me up THIS MUCH. David Lowery's  A Ghost Story  has been one of my most anticipated films of 2017 ever since I first heard about. I really love the way that Lowery builds his films. The two very different  Ain't Them Bodies Saints  and  Pete's Dragon  have a very distinct sense of warmth and empathy at the center. Not to mention, they both look and sound utterly stunning. If anything,  A Ghost Story  has now solidified Lowery's place as one of the most exciting fresh talents working in the business right now. The Dark Tower: Review

The Dark Tower  is bland, boring, and far too quick to try to build a franchise yet somehow also lacking in any ambition towards lore or world-building. Arcel and co. clearly, show no sense of understanding in the original source material. In a meager 95 minutes, this film manages to accomplish absolutely nothing of merit. Elba and McConaughey are fine but they’re entirely unable to bring any sense of style, fun, richness, or urgency to a movie that really could’ve benefitted from that. Weirdly enough, I do not think  The Dark Tower  is really a catastrophe of a film or even offensive in any way, it's just a stale brand of studio-stapled nothingness.
